Thoroughly modern management is focused, for the large part, on the definition, automation and industrialization of business processes.

For example, today’s sales process is seen as a function of pipeline, qualification, and deal-closure, all to be measured and managed. And note the use of the word ‘process’ next to ‘sales.’

But something’s missing. People buy from people – often for non-price reasons that cover a host of soft factors, such as whether or not they like each other and, critically, trust each other.

The true foundation of business is trust.
